Do you have a natural remedy for fleas and does it work?
Posted by admin on Dec 2, 2009
I’ve been reading about natural flea remedies and am thinking about trying the lemon spray. You take 1 lemon and slice it, boil it, strain pour into a spray bottle and then you can use it on your dog the next day. Has anyone tried this method with any results? We’ve tryed all of the flea pills and sprays and still can’t get rid of these brown fleas.
Food grade diatomaceous earth is supposed to control fleas if sprinkled on the animal in powdered form. Also supposed to rid internal parasites if mixed in with food.Have no first hand experience to back up claims.

Yes, brewers yeast and garlic pills.

My dogs are on them, and no fleas.

I haven’t heard that the lemon works well except in helping to repel. It won’t kill them. You can try apple cider vinegar on the pets & salt on the carpeting.

I can’t speak for the salt but the vinegar does help repel fleas & mosquitoes well plus it heals up the bites & removes the itching.

One thing I did was use a bag-less vacuum. Vacuum twice a day and dump the dirt immediately into a sealed bag. Do this for a couple of weeks and it should help get rid of the flea’s in the carpet and there eggs. You should also be treating the animal in the process. This was just a way to help rid them faster.

What helped me.
Yes, Blue Dawn Dish Soap!
first please remember that you must get rid of the source of the fleas all the while keeping them off your pet, by this I mean that you must treat all the areas where your pet resides, maybe your house needs bombed or have a exterminator come in– to see if you have an over all problem, do this~
Place a small bowl of vinegar down on the floor in several areas of your home, leave over night, This attracts fleas. When you get up in the morning check the bowls, if there are fleas, then you have a in house problem— treat your house, wash your pets bedding Then give your pet a bath using the original blue dawn dish detergent– this kills fleas on a pet you can also mix it with a mild baby shampoo, but I like to use dawn by itself, then follow it with aloe shampoo so my dog skin does not dry out— so start with the vinegar bowls, then treatment, then bathing– they all must be done together or all your work will not work—Good Luck

mint and tea tree oil in the bath
Mentha spp
Fam: Labiata
Mint has been used for many centuries. The name comes from the Greek legend of the nymph Minthe, who attracted the attention of Hades. Hades’ wife, the jealous Persephone, attacked Minthe and was in the process of trampling her to death when Hades turned her into the herb (and was ever sacred to him). A symbol of hospitality and wisdom, “the very smell of it reanimates the spirit”, Pliny tells us. Ancient Hebrews scattered mint on their synagogue floors so that each footstep would raise its fragrance. Ancient Greeks and Romans rubbed tables with mint before their guests arrive. The Romans brought mint and mint sauce to Britain. The pilgrims brought mint to the United States aboard the Mayflower. The Japanese have distilled peppermint oil for several centuries and the oil is further treated to produce menthol. The smell of mint is known to keep mice away and pennyroyal is also regarded as an effective insecticidal against fleas and aphids.

Useless nonsense – all of it. People have tried "natural remedies" for fleas for hundreds of years and dogs have had fleas for that long.
Some of the suggestions on here, dish liquid, etc. can truly harm your dog.
The ONLY thing that works absolutely is a name brand flea/tick preventative like Frontline Plus or Advantix — why would you mess around with stuff that just gets rid of a few adult fleas, the larvae and eggs hatch and your dog is infested again.
Stop being cheap and mucking around and put your dog on a decent, name brand flea/tick preventative. Fleas and ticks are not just disgusting, they cause diseases in dogs and humans — who wants to live with fleas.

Hi,
For flea repellent:
Combine equal parts eucalyptus, fennel, rosemary, rue, wormwood and yellow dock. Sprinkle a small amount of the powder onto your dog’s coat. Here are more tips:
